GeekPress on Fire
This picture was taken just before sunset from the hiking trail just above our house. The tree in the foreground is a eucalyptus on our property. The smoke is from an active fire about two miles southwest of our house. Paul and I haven't been able to see much from our house, but a quick five minute hike south takes us to a ridge overlooking the southern side of Palo Verde Ranch and the Cleveland National Forest. Basically, from this vantage point, Paul and I had a good, 180 degree view south. This morning (sans Paul), I could only see a small plume of smoke to the east from this vantage point. This afternoon, everything in sight was smoking. We could see active fires burning within the Cleveland National Forest, not far from where we often hike. This evening, the active fires had been put out, although they were still smouldering. The major fires had moved to the southwest. The fire seems to have passed us by -- at least for the moment. But we are ready to evacuate at a moment's notice, as it could flare up any time. |
