Dimmable windows using "suspended particle device" technology should become commercially available in the next year or two. The article explains how the technology works, as well as how it was discovered when a dog took a pee where it wasn't supposed to.
Usually when dogs pee in the wrong place, all that results are icky carpet stains and lingering odors...

This is not that complicated. They have sunglasses (or just plain glasses) that will automatically dim in the presence of excessive sunlight because of some chemicals in the lens... same thing.
