Notice: GeekPress is back up and running, thanks to Paul! It's still a not-so-serious tech news blog, but the format is significantly looser. Diana, having given up programming for philosophy, has her own philosophical blog NoodleFood. More of her work can be found at DianaHsieh.com.

An excellent profile of James Randi, the professional magician who has won a MacArthur "genius grant" for his tireless work in debunking false psychics, and advocating rational thinking.
He has always been one of my heroes. Check out his website here!

Cult science? by MysteriousStranger

Only one problem: James Randi is an irrational
cult-brainwashed true believer. If it isn't in
the consensus reality of mainstream science, it
doesn't exist for him. Yes, Randi has done some
good work debunking fraudulent psychics. But he
has also been entirely willing to use all the usual
propaganda tactics, to tear down things he does
not understand. As with all non-thinking
religious true believers, Mr. Randi can never be
uncertain about anything-- there is True and False
and nothing in between, and he already has the answer
before he starts investigating.

Randi hasn't got a "rational" thought in his brain,
just a large list of memorized definitions of facts
and myths. As with any fanatic, Randi does not even
understand how the thing he mindlessly worships-- in
this case, Science-- really works.
