Declan McCullagh found an e-mail circulating around the internet that purports to be a message from PayPal informing the reader that he or she has received $200. When unwary users click on the link, they are then re-directed towards a fake PayPal site that asks for the user password and other valuable account information. (The site is apparently no longer up.)
PayPal has also responded to Declan, indicating some of the steps they are taking to protect users.

"Our users are usually savvy enough " by T_Rex_212

Unfortunately, in the general populous, people are NOT very savvy. I try to teach the people I work with how to read a URL (and that is without obfuscation) but I have seen countless browsers set either in full screen mode or with the address bar and status bars turned off. The user has no idea where a link will take them. Educating their users with newsletters and manditory click through pages, they are doing their users a bigger favor than they can imagine.
