A good overview of some of the commercial products out there utilizing location technology. The article also covers the legitimate concerns about the resultant loss of privacy.
Like many people, I'd be willing to trade some privacy provided I saw a tangible benefit -- either monetary or some form of increased security.

TrekToday has an article on the upcoming Star Trek V series, including a full list of the main characters: "Series V will indeed be set on a Starship Enterprise, under the command of human Captain Jackson Archer. The backdrop of the series will be the 22nd Century, at a time when starship travel was a relatively new endeavour, humans and Vulcans still had much to learn about each other, and the universe really was still filled with strange new worlds, new life and new civilisations." In the aftermath of the dotcom bust, more disillusioned tech workers who moved to Silicon Valley in search of riches are leaving and returning home. As one joke goes, "B-to-C" no longer means "Business-to-Consumer" internet firms but rather "Back to Cleveland".
