Notice: GeekPress is back up and running, thanks to Paul! It's still a not-so-serious tech news blog, but the format is significantly looser. Diana, having given up programming for philosophy, has her own philosophical blog NoodleFood. More of her work can be found at DianaHsieh.com.

A woman will soon be moving with her daughter to California, while the father (still in New Jersey) keeps in contact via e-mail and the internet, thanks to a state appeals court. (Apparently, there is not a single "better-paying job with medical benefits and flexible hours" for the mom closer than 3000 miles away.)
Gee, why not just install an autoresponder-bot that can remind the daughter to do her homework and clean up her room?

A single 4-inch long predatory mantis shrimp is wreaking havoc at a children's aquarium in Monterey, California. The shrimp has eluded the aquarium personnel for months, devouring "prized sea snails, barnacles, and hermit crabs" and leaving behind "piles of broken shells". The article says that the shrimp has "reduced a coral reef exhibit to a killing field".
Maybe they need to post a reward -- "Wanted Dead or Alive"...

The Register has a bleak article about the growing loss in revenue facing gaming web sites, due to the closure of many major gaming portals.
Everyone from Brass Knuckles to NY Times is hurting from the weakening of web advertising. If GeekPress was making money, I'm sure we'd be hurting too. :-)
