Iridigm Technology hopes to make flat screen displays using a novel optical interference technique -- the same phenomenon that createst the iridescent colors in butterfly wings.
Yet another contender in the rapidly developing "digital paper" market. (See this article for a profile of another one.) Some of these companies will undoubtedly make it big in the next 5 years -- the only problem for an investor is trying to decide which one(s).

The folks over at TextWare have designed a new software-based keyboard layout for PDAs (called Fitaly) that apparently allows for 50 error-free WPM with a bit of practice.
The design looks very elegant, totally optimized for the pecking method required for PDAs! I'm downloading the demo for my Palm now!
Asteroid misses Earth "by a whisker"

An asteroid passed within 480,000 miles of the earth on Friday, surprising scientists. Although the distance is twice that of the distance betweeen the earth and the moon, it is considered a "near miss" by astronomical standards. Had is struck the Earth, it would have devastated the city of London, leaving a crater 3/4 of a mile across.
Don't those asteroids know that it's Christmas?

A conservative member of the Scottish parliament stunned colleagues by e-mailing them Jingle Boobs, a Christmas card featuring "five topless women in stockings unwrapping presents while their breasts sway in time to to Max Bygraves's Christmas song, Jingle Bell Rock." An investigation will probably ensue.

Teacher Dares Students to Hack

A high-school computer science teacher dared his students to hack into the internet filtering and security software on the school's computers. But when Aaron Lutes succeeded, he got a five-day suspension and locked up briefly by the local police for "unauthorized access to government data."
The high school teacher's claim that his dare was just a joke is quite a lesson for his students in taking personal responsibility!
